Profile
- Andreas Wutz is an independent artist, who graduated in painting and installation art, and has subsequently focused on photography, media installation and art film. He has been teaching Audio-Visual Art, Art Film and New Media at the Instituo Europeo de Design in Barcelona, and at the University of California in San Diego.
- His research focuses on the media history of urban and natural landscapes, and investigates the social-political and historical relevance of every day situations. Based on phenomenological reflections of sounds and images, his concepts are driven by the attempt to relate the conceptualization of his work to historical and contemporary time. Understanding his objects of study and environment not only through, but also within media, his films, photographs, and media installations explore their inherent content, language, history, and performative presence self-reflexively.
- Wutz has been involved in many international exhibitions at institutions such as La Virreina - Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona, Haus der Kunst Munich, Cristina Enea Foundation in Donostia-San Sebastian or Kunstverein Salzburg. His films have been presented at international film festivals such as in Rotterdam, Utrecht, Bilbao, Hongkong, Karachi, Nairobi or Harare, or by screenings at Kino Arsenal Berlin, Filmmuseum Munich, Cine Zumzeig Barcelona or Lux London.
- His work has been published in catalogues such as in Punctum – Reflections on Photography (Salzburger Kunstverein), Light Is a Kind of Rhythm (merz & solitude, Stuttgart) or Andreas Wutz – Le Mans (Cuxhavener Kunstverein). His critical writings have been published by Senses of Cinema, Texte zur Kunst, La Vanguardia or in catalogues such as Photography after Photography (Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia).
